BDO: Sniping vs Enhancing Gear
A look at the pros and cons of both sniping enhanced gear off the marketplace as well as enhancing it yourself.
Sniping:
Pros:
- No risk of losing money. Only risk of not obtaining your items.
- Easier to save for. You need 450m for a TRI boss item. 1.1b for a TET.
- You can also sell your enhancement materials to help fund this. I personally have over 1.5b silver worth of enhancement mats I could sell right now. This drastically increases your liquid silver income per day if you grind/gather regularly.
Cons:
- Takes much longer to get new items unless you're lucky. Bidding only on TRI/TET boss gear drastically limits the number of items you can bid on. The lower you go the more you can bid on and the higher your chances of winning, but you'll also have to start enhancing, not just sniping.
- You can preorder, but preordering could easily end up costing you more than enhancing would. Worth it to avoid enhancing if you hate it though.
- Also means that if you want weapons for a new class you need to hope to get lucky or buy an upgraded green and wait to win your boss weps. Can feel bad if you really like the new class.
- Some items just don't get sold very regularly. TRI/TET yellow accessories are both extremely rare and highly coveted by the entire playerbase. Preordering could end up costing you more than enhancing possibly could unless you're extremely unlucky.
Enhancing:
Pros:
- Can enhance new items right away. If you win a bid, get a box from world boss, or roll your Dande at the Night vendor then you can enhance it right away.
- It's a pain in the ass but not actually that difficult. It's merely tedious.
- If you're lucky you can save millions or even billions of silver playing TET (Or even PEN) Roulette.
Cons:
- You need enhancement mats. This isn't bad for ordinary blackstones. But memory fragments and hards/sharps are both in short supply. Even if you have the silver it doesn't necessarily mean you can obtain the materials needed.
- Failure is expected. But too much failure means you will lose money even compared to an inflated preorder price. It's not hard to fail TET 10+ times and lose hundreds of millions of silver simply trying to get back to TRI for more attempts.
- Enhancement can be draining. Watching a months worth of silver drain away over the course of an hour where you're left with a worse item than you started out with is an awful feeling. Accessories are even worse as months of work can disappear in a single click.
- There is no guaranteed way to get your item through enhancement. A preorder may be costly, but it is 100% guaranteed that you will win the item if it goes to preorder. With enhancement, no matter how many failstacks you have you can still fail as failstacks have a limit on how much they affect the success rate of an enhancement.
I personally prefer to snipe my gear. But enhancement is the faster way to get gear to TRI or higher in most circumstances. In the end it all comes down to personal preference.
