Created as a spiritual successor to their earlier title, Dear Esther, The Chinese Room released Everybody's Gone to the Rapture on August 11, 2015 for the Playstation 4, and eight months later for Microsoft Windows. The game has received very high reviews from both critics and players alike.

The standard W, A, S, and D controls are used in this game, along with LMB to interact with something (e.g., open a door) and RMB held *while sliding the mouse slowly left or right* will allow a player to save at their current position. Except for the cases where a player would save the game (which require the aforementioned mechanic), events are simply experienced in the game; as you come upon the spot where two characters once talked, you will see echoes of them in light while their voices will relive the past conversation.

A strange event has befallen the fictional town of Yaughton, Great Britain, and a married pair of scientists, Dr. Katherine Collins and Stephen Appleton, are sent to investigate. Several conflicting views on various matters causes conflict among those in the area, exacerbating their fight — for survival, for answers, for peace.
