The Legend of Simubaya: Dark Alliance part 8 Spawn of Yennoghu and The Fury of Icewind
Welcome SimuSquad to another glorious episode of Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance on Playstation 4! This the last episode until the end, so don't miss it! This time we do two Acts instead of just one! Let's jump into the adventure!
The first act up is called, "Yeenoghu's Sisterhood." This campaign's main enemy is going to be the gnolls that have come in from outside the Dale, so they could capture Reghed Barbarians to sacrifice to bring their evil god, Yeenoghu. If you've played Baldur's Gate 3 or watched some earlier episodes, you'll be familiar with gnolls. The first episode of the Act is named, "Fort Onarmmac." It is the name of the fort that we have to pass through to get to the Netherese portal that will take us to the forest where our quarry hides. To get activate the gateway, we must first capture the four Netherese keystone that are used to open the portal. We've done this kind of quest before, and will probably have at least one more like it before the game ends. In this segment, our main enemies are not in fact gnoll at all, but are in fact goblin and Stygians with some verbeeg thrown in for seasoning. I, of course, get a bit lost in the level trying to explore and find things off the beaten path, but find my way to the portal. At the portal we discover a boss that is blocking the way. It's a frost giant with some friends, but we triumph and go about our way!
The second level is "Hunting the Hunters." Here, we are traveling the Blood Forest to find more gnolls, and hopefully a lead on where their base is located. Not the nicest name for a forest, but I'm sure it was well earned before I showed up and killed dozens of enemies. We push our way through the level where we get a little bit of everyone we've dealt with in the Act so far. We start to search the woods for gnolls and the route we need to take to their camp. We fight our way deeper into the encampment destroying cages along the way to make sure they can't take anymore prisoners. After a great deal of battle and a few attempts at solving a puzzle, we come across the bosses of this level. It is a pair of burning gnolls who set me on fire quite a few times. A bit of glorious battle and we win the day.
The third level is "Power of the Abyss." In it, we see that the gnolls are in the middle of a ritual to summon forth Yeenoghu to the material plan. Of course, we can't let that happen. This level is relatively easy to do as all boss levels are. After slaughtering untold gnolls and a few other enemies, we get to the boss arena. In it, we have to knock down the tower used to summon the gnolls' god. There are three totems that we have to destroy. Before we can destroy each one, we have to fight one of the Yeenoghu sisters. After a great deal of fighting, we win and head back to base.
Since the previous act was so short, we did the next act, "The Fury of Icewind." The first level of which is, "The Hunting Grounds." In this level, we are thinning out the minions of Icewind who have allied with her to save their own skins. It's mostly goblins again as we always slaughter. We are working on finding out where the dragon Icewind was. We start to get closer to the gate to the next level. When we get to the end, we walk into an obvious ambush and engage a bunch enemies in battle, including a boss with the greatest name in the game.
The second level is "The Hall of Judgement." This level has us heading toward the dragon's new lair underground, so she won't see us. In it, we fight everything except Crystal Cultists, Trolls, and Frost Giants. This level requires a lot of battle, and investigation of the areas we move through. There are a lot of patches with icicles that cause slowing and damage. When we finally kill our way to the boss area, where a new frost giant boss appears and awaits a beating. With another frost giant defrosted, we continue into the dragon's lair.
The third level is "A Tomb of Ice," and the final fight of the night. Icewind appears to have turned Icingdeath into a lawn ornament, and his corpse gets to watch over our battle. It is a tough fight as any dragon fight should be. Our new ability Second Wind from our full set of armor comes in handy. It saves us from death several time. One intense fight later, we win and conquer the dragon! The game congratulates us one act early, but the game continues next week!
