Hey hey folks, and welcome to the latest instalment of Dave's Impressions. This first impressions / review of The Messenger was made after playing the game for around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

I know, I know, another pixel throwback platformer right? And it looks like Ninja Gaiden to boot. I had reservations before starting the game, and found myself loving it. The game has a wonderful fluidity to it, combined with a quick pace. The player finds themselves flowing from screen to screen, learning new movement mechanics, and enjoying their downtime listening to the mysterious shopkeeper. The bosses are impressive, and no challenge ever stumped me to the point of frustration. In fact, learning to catch my breath and evaluate the next move helped me immensely. The music is catchy, the pixel art is gorgeous, and I can't wait to play more of the game. I mean, I didn't even get to the main gimmick shown off in the trailer, travelling backwards and forwards between an 8-bit and 16-bit landscape. I give the game an easy recommendation to those who enjoy platformers with an adequate level of challenge.
