Part 2. I expected more Mega Man Legends gameplay from Tron Bonne and what I got was a very cool spin-off treat filled with a variety of game styles. Sure you have your 3rd person shooting sections but you also have a first person dungeon explorer, a block moving puzzle section and a base where you can talk to and train your servbots to be more efficient. There is a ton of voice acting and for the era it comes from it is fairly decent. The graphics are solid. Each room in the base has its own 2D pre-rendered screen. The levels themselves are fairly simple and most are reused a few times. If I were to guess I would say this is a budget spin off, but it makes pretty solid use of what it has available. The puzzle levels happen all on the same dock, but your approach on each new level changes and the block puzzles really make you think. It may be my favorite part of the game. The dungeon exploration is cute but very simple. You wander around in first person and issue commands to your servbots to attack things, turn traps off and talk to NPCs. It's super simple. The rest of the stages are 3rd person and are akin to Mega Man Legends. Tron Bonne brings along a few servbots and they can help steal from buildings and assist in attacking from time to time. You also have a choice of 3 different weapons you can attach to Tron's bot. You assign a single servbot to the robot and that determines it's attack power and speed at which you fire. It's cool. The servbots themselves can be trained at your base and there are 40 different ones each with their own personal stats. At the base you can raise attack and speed through two separate mini games. Both of which offer some real challenge. The speed mini game gets out of had really quickly. You have to serve a set number of bots in a limited amount of time. Each bot requests a meal and said meal corresponds to a button on the controller. You have a set amount of time to serve however many bots, it gets to the point where you have to serve more bots than there is time on the clock, I found that pausing the game during this section made it super easy, but in real time was most likely impossible for me to do. The controls overall are responsive and easy to manage. There are few awkward moments here and there due to the control scheme, but it never is anything awful. The targeting can be a bit silly and manual aiming can help with that when needed. This game oozes charm and is an absolute blast to play. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
