Finally, we have reached the most famous surrendering of the Premier League title in the competition’s near 30-year history. Liverpool had been without a league title since 1990, Anfield was at fever pitch, no more so than in Liverpool’s 3-2 win over nearest rivals Manchester City, where Steven Gerrard in the post-match celebrations instructed his teammates to not let it slip. Then he slipped at home to Chelsea, Demba Ba scored and Chelsea defeated Liverpool. A draw at Crystal Palace in the following match allowed Manchester City a free run at the Premier League title. A Premier League title which Liverpool finally claimed in 2020.
