With rumors circulating that Warner Brothers could have a dud on their hands when it comes to the script for the planned Justice League movie, it looks like Universal may have a plan to stop that from happening with their Mummy reboot. Vulture reports that the studio has hired two writers to take on the reboot of their highly successful franchise that has brought in over $1.4 billion at the box office over 4 films. According to the site, Jon Spaihts who co-wrote Prometheus and The Hunger Games writer Bill Ray have been hired to write competing scripts for the film that is currently eyeing a summer 2014 release. The move is apparently in order to help ensure they will have a proper script ready in time to make the planned release. It's common for films to have multiple writers on a project, but it is unusual for them to be writing competing scripts. Though the scripts will be competing, sources say they will both take place in present day, something that director Len Wiseman previously revealed. The same source also speculates that whichever script ends up becoming the plot of The Mummy, elements of the other script will most likely be incorporated into it. All this blending of parts sounds more Frankenstein than Mummy, but what do you think? Is this a smart way to go or should they just focus on making one good script?
