9Tobvet is a madman when it comes to level design. It's always fresh and original concepts that are masterfully layered into a complex and challenging dungeon that tests everything from your reflexes to your gimmick knowledge. I really love playing his levels, couldn't pick a better way to kick it off again!
I think the first area is a perfect example of how great the level design is. Right out the gate here he's got us thinking. It's not too often a 36 minute video starts out with a boss fight, but here we are! But it's not a full boss fight, it's instead an escape sequence from some sort of holding stasis chamber, where you break out using the boss's weapon and run away from him until you find a weapon store of your own to equip yourself with, but not to fight him directly... rather to drop a giant crate on his head. After that's done, you loop back to the original tank to open the other side of it, and that's not even the last time you'll be in this area, because the level is designed to loop around itself even more than it already has and unlock new areas when more "Necessary Tools" are acquired.
From someone that loves gimmick based levels, and someone that loves metroidvania levels, and someone that love dense level design that loops on itself, you can understand why I like this type of level, haha. And this is all done with a great difficulty balance (love the checkpoint placement, another win!) and without ever sacrificing any sort of visual appeal, which is the cherry on top of the level design cake we got bakin' here. I just can't say too many enough many more many good things.
