🐆【Ooze】〖53 Days of Action 52 - Day 5〗 (Individual Videos For All Action 52 Games)
In a world where your gun trigger is tied to your shoelace and physics are optional, Ooze is a game about sniping pickles before they snipe you.
Makes about as much sense as anything else we've seen so far with this series, and despite the strange premise, this game is surprisingly playable! That's right friends, for the second time in this series (also including Illuminator), we have a game that can be described tentatively as enjoyable. I would play this game. Weird, I know.
However, that's not to say it's a polished masterpiece... it may be on the top of the Action 52 scale, but the Action 52 scale has a real low ceiling. It's a buggy mess, as you'd expect, with every jump shooting a shot and every shot you shoot jumping a jump. That's kind of hard to make work in this game, considering most of your enemies are in the air and need to be jump-shot, but as you'll see in the episode, we work our way around it.
That's one of my favourite things about bad games for the record -- trying to play around their bad mechanics. I don't know if it's my love of programming that makes me enjoy it so much or just my love of old video games and a lifetime of making them work, but whatever it is I get a lot of pleasure out of making the best of a bad situation. I jokingly called Ooze a puzzle game in this playthrough, but that's the kind of thing I'm talking about -- deciphering a messy old game with bad controls and broken gameplay turns what would be a normalish bland platformer into something more exciting, at least for me. It's gonna be a sad day when we play our last Action 52 title.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the episode friend! Hopefully I remembered to post a link to the secret LP down in the comments. That's right, I had so much fun with this one I just couldn't let it go, hahah. For those of you that just can't get enough Ooze, don't fear -- Squiggy's got you covered baby bird. I need to start hiding more of these secret LPs and stuff, I've really lost the way since starting this channel and doing more weird stuff like that. Maybe it's time to bring it back to the roots and mix it up a bit. Catch you soon!

⸺⦕ Wikipedia Info ⦖⸻⸻
Action 52 is an unlicensed multicart video game compilation developed by Active Enterprises for the Nintendo Entertainment System, and FarSight Technologies for the Sega Genesis. The NES version was released in 1991, followed by the Genesis version in 1993. A Super NES version was advertised in magazines, but never released. Active Enterprises was legally incorporated in the Bahamas, however, offices and development were located in Miami, Florida while the company's product warehousing was located in Orlando, Florida.
Action 52 consists of 52 games that cover a variety of genres, with the most common being scrolling shooters and platformers. One of the more notable games is The Cheetahmen, Active's attempt at creating a franchise similar to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The NES version of Action 52 became notorious among gamers for the poor quality and functionality of its games, and is often considered to be the worst game of all time. The Genesis version is widely considered superior, though still of subpar quality. Many video game collectors value Action 52 for its notoriety and rarity. It initially retailed for the comparatively high price of US$199 (equivalent to $374 in 2019).
⸺⦕ Series Information ⦖⸻⸻
53 Days of Action 52 is a series where I go through each of the games on the NES Action 52 cartridge in order, with the final episode being the legendary Cheetahmen. We'll give each game a 'First Impression' style review, with each episode lasting as long or short as the game warrants, and hopefully we will find a few that are good enough to make additional videos on.
