The Punisher (Capcom CPS-1 Arcade Intro and Short Demo)
To think, Frank Castle was the first character to start off the relationship between Marvel Comics and Capcom....and it was a good start for 1993!
The Punisher was released in the arcades in 1993 and saw a Mega Drive port in 1994. The plot centres the death of Frank Castle's family as they were murdered for discovering a mob killing accidentally. Becoming the vigilante and teaming up with S.H.I.E.L.D's Nick Fury, The Punisher must battle through a range of enemies (and a robot) in gaining revenge for his family.
Following the formula of Final Fight and Captain Commando, 'The Punisher' is somewhat presented in a comic book style format and showing onomatopoeias (e.g - BLAM! for gunshots), basic attacks can be combined to make extra damages to enemies, many melee weapons with durability can be used to great effect and obtaining food for health along with treasure for bonus points!
Being a fan of the Punisher, I was fascinated when I saw the preview back in 1993 in GamesWorld Magazine and eventually played in the arcades which blew me away due to the fact there's a Punisher arcade game which like the comic! There's the PS2 game which was something and still playing that! Up to this day, I still play it from time to time and never get bored....hell, I based a fictional character off of Frank's background! This will always be a classic and it's a shame that it never got the love from the higher-ups but it did from the fans!
