X-Men: Children of the Atom (Capcom CPS-2 Arcade Intro and Short Demo)
The one that started it all off for the Capcom's Marvel fighters and of course, the VS. series.
X-Men: Children of the Atom was released in the arcades in 1994/1995 with a Saturn port in 1995/1996 and a PlayStation port in 1998 which was very weird thinking back on that one!
The game itself was loosely based of the 'Fatal Attractions' storyline in which was you see Magneto somwhat 'rips' Wolverine's adamantium skeleton out of his skin and Prof.Xavier wiping Magneto's mind because it (That technically leads into the Onslaught storyline). The characters were a interesting one as you have Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Iceman and Psylocke on the X-Men side while you have villains in Silver Samurai, Spiral, Omega Red, Sentinel (looked different from the cartoon and comics!), Juggernaut and of course, Magneto
The gameplay of XM:COTA is based of SSF2 Turbo and Darkstalkers with a few interesting additions. One of them is the X-Power Gauge in which you build up in levels, an aura will flow around the character until it reaches to a 'MAX' level! Along with that, players can perform a X-Ability which takes up 'a fraction' of the gauge and Hyper X which uses 'most' of the gauge! Also, you can aim the projectile or super combo like Cyclops' Optic Blast for example and the selection of blocking with manual and automatic!
Honestly, this game back in 1994 looked awesome and a home console port would have been something! Playing this is another thing as this can be a absolute *bleep* even you're playing it decently (trust me on that one!) as COTA can be tough to beat following SSF2T and the earlier SNK games and I can tell you from experience that Magento suffers from SNK Boss Syndrome...blatantly! All I can say is if you have the patience...go for it but brace yourself!
Hope that you enjoy the video and stay tuned for more Marvel action...whether I decided to play COTA, stay tuned!
