Fighting Layer (Namco System 12 Arcade Intro and Short Demo)
If only Namco continued the series!? Then again, Capcom still had the rights to some SFEX characters back in those days!
The original Fighting Layer was released in the arcades in December 1998 and exclusively in Japan as this never got a home console port. The gameplay is very similar to Street Fighter EX in terms of the super combo system and cancelling super combo attacks as that was borrowed from SFEX2 that was released earlier in that years.
Fighting Layer has some interesting characters with some Street Fighter comparisons here and there such as Tetsuo Kato, the main character sort of similar to Ryu but uses fists and headbutts, Lan-Yinghua being a Chun-Li type character, Hong Gillson who is oddly similar to Tekken's Hwoarang as Tekken 3 came out in March 1997 (Nice one, Namco!) and Exodus who is a pro-wrestler but takes it to the extreme by using steel folding chairs and 'breathing fire'....not kidding! However, you still have SFEX representation with Allen Snider and Blair Dame which is a decent touch!
On a personal note, I only heard about Fighting Layer back in 2000/2001 when I went through Arika's website but played it years later on MAME which I enjoyed very well. It could have been different but seeing as it used Arika's 'super combo system' which arcade players were very accustomed to, it was a decent fit when you look at it!
'Fighting Layer' was played on MAME, recorded through Nvidia GeForce Experience and converted through WonderShare UniConverter.
Hope that you enjoy the video and stay tuned for more Fighting Layer action!
