The Punisher - Capcom's CPS brawler played on Sega Megadrive

Capcom was prolific in the arcades with hit after hit. Well known for their CPS hardware, amazing sprite work & tight gameplay Capcom released many a fine brawler into the arcades. This title from 1993 featured The Punisher (and Nick Fury in his pre-Samuel L Jackson days as the 2nd playable character). At the time, 1993, The Punisher wasn't that well known, mainly appearing in comics like Spiderman and also the Dolph Lundgren film from 1989 - certainly not one of Marvel's heavy hitters. Enjoyed him in Dare Devil and his own show on Netflix recently though.
The game is super fun and mixes in gunplay too - in order to stay true to the character. This was ported in 1994 to the Megadrive by Sculptured Software. They did a very nice job. Obviously Sega's 16 bit machine can't run a 1-2-1 port so the graphics, sound and animation all take a noticeable hit. However what remains is a fun 2 player beat em up with lots of moves and tight controls. It is certainly a fun play-through.
This is my original copy from back in the day played on my Sega CDX/MultiMega through a Retrotink 5X for ease of capture. It's the first time I've played it in years but it should give you a sense of the game.
It is one f a handful of Genesis cartridges I have (most my games are Japanese of PAL format) and I actually remember ordering this from the States as I'd enjoyed the arcade game so much. It did come out in the PAL territory as well (in 1995 in very limited numbers and is currently one of the priciest PAL games) but as it wasn't a certainty to come out here I ordered a cartridge from the US then waited weeks for it to turn up in the mail.
