The Ring: Terror's Realm | Dreamcast | 4K Widescreen | Longplay Full Game Walkthrough No Commentary
Full game longplay of The Ring: Terror's Realm, a Dreamcast exclusive survival-horror game, released first in February 2000. It is based on Ring novels by Suzuki Kouji. Here played on a Redream emulator, NTSC version, with the resolution cranked up to the maxium 3840x2880, above 4K, and with a widescreen hack enabled (with mixed results, lot of objects clipping out of the view). Started with the Third Person view camera, found it atrocious, and then quickly changed into RE-like camera. Game is locked to 30 fps, video recorded in 4K30.
Note: two video cutscenes are partly cut, due to heavy copyrights. 1) the intro FMV, where Robert rapidly succumbs to "something", and his hand turns green, like a disease. 2) the game's own The Ring tape, about 60% into the game, basically 1:1 to the movie's tape, but with a slightly different looking, more CGI like, "woman with a brush". Apparently copyrighted.
The Ring, The Ring, select few good movies, and a lot of crap otherwise, this game included. It might just be one of the worst RE clone games ever to be released. Yep, it's that bad. Certainly it's atrocious to play, might be a little better to watch. And so I give you, the viewer, this longplay, in 4K Widescreen, for preservation in very good video quality. This was not my pleasure to do this, believe you me. Dialogues, story, controls, enemies, game design... everything is a bust. Including one funny fact: I kept a shitload of weapons in the other-world's crates, just to find out that I have to somehow get them to the real world. And so, I had to manage the final fragment of the game in the real world with just a stupid pistol and any ammo I found along the way. Online guide said something about using napalm rockets on the last boss, while I was just sitting here and asking: "The fuck? What fucking napalm the last boss till she drops, you prick??. THERE ISN'T ANY WEAPON OTHER THAN THE PISTOL? That the main character is scripted to pick up??? Why didn't you actually write how the transfer of the guns to the real world actually works????". So yea, last two bosses, with a simple pistol. Great game design, no indication whatsoever how to transfer them, or if the just appear magically in the real world?? No word on that.
So yea, my rating for this game? It's crap And I am the one to almost always love the crappy old games for whatever they were actually worth, had a soft spot. But here? No, it's a really bad game, not one of those "so bad it's almost good". It's controls and game design places it strictly in the plays-bad-and-is-very-bad. 4/10 at best.
Summary of the plot:
