Deus Ex: Invisible War | xemu Xbox emulator gameplay | 4K60
Short, 29 minute long gameplay of the emulator that I have actually just discovered. Didn't know there is something else emulating OG Xbox than cxbx reloaded, but here were are. Compatibility is sure sketchy, and lots of those compatibility reports seems to have some entirely different outcomes than I did. Here, I tried Deus Ex: Invisible War, which is listed as "playable", with some minor graphical issues.
xemu version: v0.7.17, from 19th May 2022. All setting shown in the video. NTSC version Deus Ex (pretty irelevant in xbox emulation I believe, there are region-free "roms", but ohmagad legality of using no longer sold games).
My setup: Ryzen 7 4800h @4.4 GHz max, 16 GB Ram dual-channel DDR4 3200 MHz, RTX 2060 6 GB max wattage variant, 512 GB SSD. Played on a Xbox Series gamepad, works perfectly.
So, here is my report: Intro lags, heavily, and for extended amount of time. But it did not crash even once, which is fine. RTX 2060 is enough to run this game in 3200x2400 resolution, and make it NOT be the reason the game is dropping frames. See, xemu seems to be the "accurate" emulator type right now, meaning if the original hardware kept shitting out 15 FPS in one specific corner, then so will the emulator, regardless of your actual hardware, RTX 3090 or not. It will run like shit, because it's supposed to. And so, 6-10x native resolution scaling options has an actual impact on the game's performance, which adds to the issues the game already has. At 5x, 3200x2400, everything looks crisp and nice. Performance is standard as per Eidos' Unreal Engine 2.5 endeavors - shit, and variable in 15-30 fps in this game, and 15 -(rare)60 in Thief Deadly Shadows.
Game, or the emulator, has the HUD/graphical issue that was reported before, yellow line on the left side and corner of the screen showing up randomly at times. Otherwise, when there is heavy combat, emulator seems to have bigger drops, looking like a shader compilation issue (which I;ve seen in Land of the Dead running UE2 on a bad hard disk drive of my OG Xbox), otherwise it runs pretty fine, controls are pretty sluggish, but they were in the first place. Audio has some definite issues: cracking in some moments, overall pretty bad quality of the sounds (compressed much), with or withouth the experimental audio quality setting thingie. Original game had no such issues at all, sounds were definitely higher quality than here. Loadings are pretty fast, much faster than original, no other issues noticed. Probably game is fully playable, from beginning to the end, though the audio and visual issues still remain.
