In the first chapter of The Secret of Monkey Island, we are introduced to our hero, the aspiring swashbuckler going by the infamously unpronounceable name of Gibberish Driftwood (or something like that), as he arrives on Mêlée Island(TM), seeking acceptance into the brotherhood of the Jolly Roger. To gain it, though, he is challenged by the local pirate bosses to undergo three trials - master the sword, prove himself an able thief, and find a treasure. Before he can do all that, however, our young hero has to find a means to make some money and buy the right tools for the respective jobs.
