In this chapter, Lee and one of the St. John brothers go out to raid one of the bandit camps, where a clearly deranged lady with a crossbow delivers a sinister warning before meeting her maker. Back at the farm, Lee, whose suspicions have been fueled by the encounter, investigates a suspicious room in the back of the barn and realizes that dairy products are not the only thing produced by the St. Johns. The true revelation, however, arrives only after the entire group has joined the St. Johns for dinner, when Lee sneaks away to check up on Mark and discovers that his unfortunate friend is... not entirely there.
