The Seventh Generation Retrospective - Dead Space 3 - Where Visceral and EA Went Wrong
Dead Space 3, a game that suffers from a legion of bad design choices that seem random and haphazard considering most of them did not make an appearance in Dead Space 1 or 2. The question that many disappointed fans have had for years now is what went wrong?
In truth, it was a combination of things some of which is on EA but most of which is also on Visceral. The Co-Op feature, emphasis on action, and microtransations can be blamed on EA's involvement which goes back to studio interference. Visceral Games however can be blamed for the execution as well as other elements including the storytelling, poorly written characters, weapon upgrade system, save system, implementation of the the game's suits, egregious enemy AI design, among other bad choices during the development process.
This game is the reason why the announcement of a Dead Space Remake is a good thing. This IP is much better than to go out on the sour note that is this failed threequel.
