The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants (SMS) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
131A playthrough of Flying Edge's 1992 license based platformer for the Sega Master System, The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants.
I show most of (all of?) the game's secrets during the playthrough. It's very close to the NES version, so if you're familiar with that version, you'll instantly recognize most of the same tricks here.
Despite being on an 8-bit system, this version of Bart vs. the Space Mutants far more closely resembles the Genesis version than the NES original, with similar graphics, music, and mechanics. It only saw a SMS console release in PAL territories (hence the video running at 720p50), though the Game Gear port was released in America. Of the two, this is easily the better of the two Sega 8-bit versions due to the increased field-of-view provided by the increased screen resolution.
I loved Bart vs. the Space Mutants on the NES. I got it for my birthday on the NES when it first came out, and I still enjoy going back to play it.
While I don't like this version as much as the NES game (it's overall a MUCH easier game - almost too much so, the controls are way twitchier, the voice clips have been cut entirely, the intro is different, the ending has been cut down, and the licensed music has all been replaced with original stuff), it still makes for a fun and familiar play for fans of the original. The dramatic improvement in graphic quality alone makes it worth checking out. The NES was a reasonable looking game when it was released, but this one really shows off the added graphic muscle that the SMS had beneath it's hood. Of course, if you're going to play this version, you might as well upgrade to the very similar but better Genesis game.
If you found the NES title too hard or too crunchy to look at, check this one out. It fixes both of those issues. It comes with compromises of its own, but you might just like it!
