The Addams Family (Game Boy) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Ocean's 1992 platformer for the Nintendo Game Boy, The Addams Family.
I *really* like this game. A lot like the SNES game of the same name, they really nailed the gameplay and gave the presentation their typical heavy layer of polish on the Game Boy. As much as I wanted to be in love with the NES game, the gameplay was too sloppy and frustrating with it's weird jumps and erratic hit detection.
This version is very similarly structured to the other games based on the movie: you have run of most of the house and its grounds from the outset, and you've got to search different themed areas, killing bosses to save your family. This one does differ a bit in how you get items from the bosses, and you need to solve some simple puzzles with them, or use them to get to previously unreachable areas. It doesn't play a big role in the game, but the touch of depth is welcome.
It looks and sounds great, the controls are solid, and it's difficult without being frustrating. It's a damn sight better than the NES game, nearly as good as the SNES game, and is different enough from any other version to warrant a playthrough. Two thumbs up! Or one, if you happen to be a single disembodied hand.
Oh yeah, and I did hit all of the areas. I went through the woods and the hive to get the vampire potion - these are optional, but I wanted to show everything.
