This is a tie-in prequel to the 2008 film, The Sky Crawlers, and it was developed by Projects Aces & Access Games. This is one of the best games Project Aces has ever made.

This game is meant to be played with motion controls but I utterly despise motion controls, so I have set the controls up in the emulator to resemble the standard Ace Combat scheme.
I’m not the biggest fan of the maneuver mechanic, my opinion is that it takes a lot of the fun out of tracking a target when you can just press a button and get on their tail but there’s a fine line between tracking a target and flying endlessly in circles, which as I’ve said in the past really isn’t fun. Still, it’s obviously extremely effective so I do use it more and more as the game progresses simply to save time. It’s also required in some of the later missions, where the encounters are clearly balanced around its use.
For Mission 7, this map hammers the crap out of the emulator when you look at certain parts of it. It also causes the audio to get really crunchy. I do my best to avoid it.
For mission 11, this is another mission that really hammers the emulator. I had to enable the VBI skip so that the audio isn’t just awful. If this causes any oddities, it’s out of my hands.
If you’re wondering, I did get a B on the final mission. It’s based on how fast you shoot the enemy ace down and how much damage you take. It’s easier with some post-game unlocks. I didn’t bother replaying it over and over again to brute force it given you have to sit through the ending/credits to see which rank you get. Plus, I really don’t care for arbitrary scoring requirements.
