Breath of Fire 2 (SNES) Playthrough #2 (No Commentary)
Breath of Fire Series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPO56tlewLYTlDdd6dBCGDdn4HiCaaogF
This came out the year after the original Breath of Fire did, still making it a nearly 30 year old game. I am also using a fan retranslation patch given BoF2’s notoriously awful original translation.
Please note that this is segmented and edited.
Notes
The three other dialogue options with the tree after you leave the Dream World just repeat the dialogue of the old men in the dungeon I just left.
For the donation thing in Earth Temple, you have to do it 20 times in order to unlock the earth shaman for fusing later. After the second boss encounter at Farma, you can go back to the Earth Temple and learn a spell by doing a puzzle but it’s a miserable puzzle and the spell sucks, so I don’t bother.
This donation crap is repeated later for the Cathedral section. It might not actually be required since all the book tells you is the full name of the god in the description.
During the Guard Eye encounter, if you attack the old man and kill him, it eventually leads to a bad ending.
After the events at Gate, you become permanently unable to fly via Nina’s special ability. You can’t speed up how fast the other flying method moves.
Before entering the final dungeon, I go grind until the party I intended to use are all at least level 40. I did this grind again on the Monster Island.
During this process, I made 9 Wisdom Fruit by cooking 1 Fire Spice, from Guntz, with 2 Tuna from Daiye to make a Stamina Up and then combining the Stamina Up with 2 more tuna. I don’t include this in the video because it is both horribly tedious and prone to RNG, which I simply abused save states for instead of doing real saves and reloading if it failed.
I didn’t bother cooking to increase base stats because that’s also horrible and unnecessary.
In the first part of the final dungeon, there are two chests that require Sten in the party but these items aren’t very good and so I disregard them. I also don’t loot two chests in that massive room with all the stairs as they are just things you can buy at Township.
You can defeat Barbaroi solo but it requires you to save your Moon Drops and Restoratives, which I did not. All you get is a hint for the treasure chest in the dark room but you can loot it without defeating him solo.
What a miserable final dungeon! This whole game was a misery to play, actually.
