It wasn't my intention going in, but this one turned into another case of the Squid Sisters telling you to FEEL YOUR FEELINGS!!! Shorter headcanon this time: Liquid Sunshine has definitely got some connections with City of Color: it's the most out-and-out "pop" song the duo have released since their first album. Marie, writing the lyrics for this one, even threw out a bit of red meat for the hardcore City of Color fans (for more long-term viewers of my channel, see if you can notice the homage to my City of Color lyrics in this one! ;]).
Narratively, it's something of a sequel to City of Color, as the lyrics are written from the perspective of a crush that Marie had just before forming the Squid Sisters with her cousin. All three singers share this one perspective, encouraging Marie to share a love note she had written before the mutual feelings of her and her crush were revealed.
