20Callie did not feel worthy of Marie's forgiveness, but she received it nonetheless. She and her cousin had looked after one another for years: so was their promise, and it would continue to be even after Callie had run away. Their differences had torn them apart, and however brief it was, the scars of this separation were sure to last long afterward.
Marie signed Callie up for therapy, as well as attending sessions herself. She had learned a lot over the previous three years, especially about herself, but she recognized her failure to react appropriately in those moments when Callie had expressed frustration or resentment before ultimately running off. Callie's insecurity had been festering for years, and it would take time for her to relearn her worth. Despite their struggles, as well as what tension remained after Callie's return, the Squid Sisters could agree on this: they would face the future together, like they did when they were kids, to mend the bond that had been broken and be family again.
Hope you guys enjoy this one! This'll be the end of the main Squid Sisters headcanon arc I've had going since Tomorrow's Nostalgia Today, but expect some more tidbits when I get around to Maritime Memory and Wave Goodbye! (Also I've been giving some more thought to the idea of writing fanfic for these HCs! Might just take a crack at some of that this summer!)
