In the context of journalism, "muck" is a term, usually historical, used to describe frivolous, sensationalized "trash" reporting.

[ Headcanon omg! :0 ]
Pearl and Marina had never experienced the true extent of massive fame until after the release of Color Pulse, the single which preceded their first album by just under a year. In that time, they would become familiar with that most dreaded, most rightfully-despised celebrity media institution: the paparazzi. Stepping outside of their home felt like stepping into a warzone, the constant firing of camera flashes and shouting of names for attention creating an environment that basically demanded that they react negatively. And when a celebrity reacts negatively to what is essentially targeted harassment, that reaction gets blown up by the same muckslingers who provoked it.

It was only a matter of time before the tabloids got wind of rumors surrounding Marina's relationship with alcohol. Something that had been private had somehow slipped out, and the pair felt that this all had gotten to a point where it had to be called out. The whole affair would inspire the lyrics of "Muck Warfare," Off the Hook's condemnation of the lack of respect for celebrity privacy. The muck press would not have the last word: it was time for people to hear the story come from Pearl and Marina.
