This is a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS). This means input was recorded for each individual frame with assistance of external tools such as save states.

The point of this video is to show that score isn't everything in order to get an XS rank in this game - you actually do need to get the special bonuses, even though they provide so little points. For 1-3, the supposed score cutoff for XS rank is 5400 points. For this operation, I achieved a score well above that, ovver 5600 points. The catch is, I skipped over the time limit, rendering an XS impossible, despite being well over the needed score.

This might seem pointless but it shines some light on the fact that you can't trade the bonus points for something extra you do in an operation.

Here, instead of doing the operation fast, I chose to grind points on tumor extracting, going well over the needed amount. In some other operation, this could be the opposite - go hyperspeed fast and skip some other bonus since the points from time gain compensate the bonus ones you'd get. Basically, you MUST get every bonus to get an XS rank, no matter how fast you move or how much you grind points.

You don't see this much since people will often go for all bonus points as getting an XS rank is hard enough as is, and the situations where this can actually happen are few, since you need to go out of your way to get so many points to account for a time loss. And moving too fast isn't always humanly possible.

Anyway, here's some math on how the score for this operation is calculated:

Vital Bonus: 5 points per vital (MAX 99*5 = 495)
Time Bonus: 5 points per second remaining on clock
In-Operation scoring:
2 inflammations - 40 points each
3 tumors [bad score] - 250 points each (could be 360 if I got a cool)
Cool incision - 200 points
Cool suture - 240 points
Cool bandage - 260 points
No mistakes bonus - 1000 points
3 COOLs earned bonus - 700 points
Completed in less than 60 seconds - 300 points (skipped)

So with the time bonus of doing the operation in 61 seconds, we have a total of 4920 points. That is still 480 points short of the XS rank mark, so we need to grind something, namely the tumor draining. Each time you do that you get 40 points, and those are already accounted for above, in the tumor score. However, that assumes you only do that once. If we abuse this and repeat the draining 6 more times for each tumor, we get 720 points.

That then brings our total to 5640 points, well over the XS mark. However, despite that, the game gave me an A Rank. Had I finished the operation 1 second faster, I'd have gotten the missed bonus and gotten the XS Rank.

To conclude (and somewhat summarize), I tried to bend the game's rules and got rekt. :D

PS: This trick is totally doable in RTA, I did it as a TAS to be safer.
