Trauma Center Second Opinion Z-1 XS in 0'26"017 [TAS]
This is a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS). This means input was recorded for each individual frame with assistance of external tools such as save states.
In this video, I clear TCSO's Z-1 operation as fast as possible while obtaining an XS rank. The operation is very straightforward, and there are no shortcuts to an XS rank, just do everything you can perfectly for MAX Chain and 3 COOLs, and you're set.
After some experimenting with rotating pieces, turns out the game has a VERY big margin of error for how much you rotate them, so you can do only 2 ticks of rotation and drop the piece and it will auto rotate the rest into its rightful position.
Much of the optimization in this episode went into gel management and rotating. Holding down the gel button speeds up everything gel related, as opposed to tapping it. Rotating pieces was described above, and saved quite a few frames by itself, but gel optimization is the real key to the time difference between my old video and this one.
If you're wondering why it seems like I'm waiting at times, it's because of in-op dialogue that prevents you from performing inputs until it scrolls by, forcing me to wait a bit to start moving again.
At the end, you can skip the post-op dialogue by choosing to return to episode select. You can also skip regular text by pressing the - button.
Total number of frames: 1561 (175 frames improvement)
Game runs at 60fps, operation time: 0'26"017 (2916ms improvement)
(We start counting frames on the first frame the phrase "Begin Operation" appears on screen, and we stop counting on the first frame the phrase "Operation Success" appears)
