Thermal Discouragement Beam in Portal 1 (Test Examples)
After 4-5 days of programming/level design, I present what the Thermal Discouragement Beam from Portal 2 could look/work like in Portal 1. I also showcase redirection cubes and beams with different colours and what can be accomplished with this! This may not seem like much, and the mechanics involved may not be 100% like what's in Portal 2, but a LOT of hours went into making this. Oh, there's parallax corrected reflections and a first person ragdoll mod added too :) although some of the reflections look awful! Plus I didn't show 120 degree fov :( This was done WITHOUT using any Portal 2 code. I feel something like this will be in Portal 2: Community Edition, so until that releases to the public...enjoy the video!
If there's enough interest generated, I may go over how I did this, or how tests would have to be designed in Hammer. Maybe? Should a magician ever reveal his tricks? What are your thoughts?
