They Always Run is a sidescrolling Ninja Brawler?. So the game is mostly about fighting and platforming, with a pinch of puzzle. The mainattraction here is seemingly the fighting, since it got way more options then just a light and heavy attack. The enemies block, do counterable and uncounterable attacks. If they have a blue flash on them, you can and should counter their attack, which usually causes an instant kill on them and charges your heavy attack. If they do an uncounterable attack, you need to either do a dodge roll, or jump out of the way, you see them doing a red flash before.
If they block your attacks, you either need to dodgeroll behind them and got an window to attack, or you do a heavy attack with your third arm, to break their block.

The platforming is usually quick, since your character has a high running speed and usually got fluid hopping, jumping and climbing animations.
When it comes to the puzzles, it's fairly easy switch puzzles so far. You have a scanner, which shows you the energy node, that opens the door. You destroy the node and the door opens, so it's basically like a switch. Some doors needs keycards, that you can get somewhere else in the level, to progress at that area.
The levels are closed instances, so you can't go back to earlier areas, so you progress forward after each level.
