They Would Never Make an AC Like This Today
i just finished watching the Whitelight AC Parkour video for the 4th time this week (standard operating procedure here), and it made me really want to jump back into the Ezio trilogy and into Unity. It's always so bittersweet when you are taken on a journey through time and a talented script writer perfectly encapsulates what made the old games so special, flaws and all. It's such a stark contrast to how the modern-day AC games make me feel, that even if I love them (e.g. Origins), I still find myself yearning for that magic that the classic games captured. The reason I wanted to make a video with Unity instead of brotherhood this week is because of a point Whitelight made in his video. Unity is a broken and unfinished mess, but for every 5 times that the game doesn't give you what you want, it will once, and that one time is so satisfying to the part of me who actively seeks out the assassin fantasy, that it makes up for all the other failures. This is I guess one of the reasons I love choreographing videos for Unity even if it is more time-consuming: once you get it right, and you get the run you want, it is such a spectacle to look at and to play. Part of me misses how satisfying the parkour/stealth/combat of these games was, and how they all worked together to serve the assassin fantasy. I don't think we will ever get an AC like this or the Ezio trilogy again, not only because Ubisoft has no interest, but because it was also a bit of a "right time right place" situation. If the ezio games were released today, they would not have had the same impact on the community that they did back then. So while I do think the old AC formula wont come back identically to what it was, i dont think it should either. My dream is for them to bring the tenets of the Assassin fantasy into the modern age, and perhaps mirage is the game to do that,
Assassin's Creed Unity is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released in November 2014 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and in December 2020 for Stadia
