TheZeroEquals Gaming - Far Cry 4 - The Zero Hour Play!
If Far Cry 3 was the start of something, Far Cry 4 felt like the second helping of a solid plan implemented within the confines of what feels like a worthy formula. It's clear that at this point, Ubisoft's focus on the villain persona was a prime important value.
We land in a fictional country in the Himalayas, to fulfil our mother's dying wish. As Ajay Ghale, we're tasked with taking our mother's ashes to Lakshmana in Kyrat. One problem, the country of Kyrat is under the strong arm rule of a vicious dictator. Thanks, mom!
Vaas was a madman, with a rough and ruthless background, yet with a charm so infectious that at times his absence was definitely felt. Pagan "Gang" Min on the other hand is clearly, from moment one when he exits his helicopter, a complete sinister and untrustworthy asshole. But the performance is key and the presentation is locked in as a classic Troy Baker role. Not just awash in sociopathic tendencies (which Vaas definitely embraced), a fully realized antagonist with the brutality of unquestioned power at his disposal.
Thematically, were dealing with some of the same elements that made Far Cry 3 such a joyride. We'll be joining the resistance movement and clearing out towers (essentially viewpoints), gathering intelligence, plotting outpost takeovers and of course, dealing with the wildlife as we try to loosen Pagan Min's stranglehold on Kyrat.
As far as mechanics, we're dealing with ever so slightly tweaked driving, with a radio station now introduced into the vehicles for those lonely travels. Also included is an "auto-drive" feature which allows you to set a waypoint and the vehicle to simply get you there while you are free to gun down the opposition from the comfort of your driver's seat. Mind you, it's not perfect and it can on occasion set you off course or completely whiff if obstacles become an issue on roads.
Overall, Far Cry 4 brings plenty of what Far Cry 3 had to offer along for the ride, but gives us another heaping helping of the blood-curdling tension and action the franchise is known for.
