TheZeroEquals Gaming - Just Cause 2 - The Zero Hour Play!
Just Cause 2 is where Avalanche Studios began to truly differentiate the series. It doubled down on the regime-overthrowing Rico Rodriguez and via upgraded visual fidelity, managed to mature our protagonist realistically enough to also introduce Rico's approach to his work with a more fully credible sense of wit and critique.
Tom Sheldon, Rico Rodriguez's handler in the first game has gone missing at the outset and there are doubts about his allegiances. So, we've got some layers of intrigue and a bit of a backstory to the game. But let's not forget why we're here!
This time around, we're in Panau (another fictitious island republic in Southeast Asia) and as a briefing aboard a helicopter goes south, we're thrown right into the mix. This time around chaos is introduced as an actual mechanic. Attack enough bases color coded in red and/or any regime faction operatives or soldiers and a meter begins to tally the amount of chaos caused. These points can later be used to upgrade gear and such.
On that note, we now have a "Dual Hook" grappler, allowing the tethering of objects and yes, individuals to objects and other individuals. So in essence, the Grappling Hook is a type of weapon as well as a traversal tool. Quite substantively adding to the possibilities for creativity in chaos.
