The idea for this Doom mod project started with an idea of being inspired by games that try the "survival horror" minimalist approach. The protagonist is not a serious warrior that carries 9 guns and goes john wick, he's a realist who knows to avoid danger. can't carry all those guns like Doom guy does, way too heavy when you're walking across the continent with one backpack. So if violence arises from scary mutant monster animals who are stupid and just start kicking and biting and throwing rocks for no reason, it means that nature wants you to demonstrate your instincts and stuff, so grab rocks that are closest and heaviest and hurl them at the attackers. It is a simple approach to cautious travel over unknown lands. use what nature provides round you!
In fantasy games like Silent Hills 2, one of the first things the protagonist does is grab a wooden board from junk pile! very resourceful! In the sequel to that, the protagonist grabs a broken pipe from the wall in a mall cafe! Brilliant! Find a firearm if you're surrounded by disgusting cannibals.
