Thy Flesh Consumed | HMP | Crispy Doom | Long OverDOOMed E1
1I've played Doom episodes 1-3 plenty of times over the past few years, but hadn't touched episode 4 since the 90s, and kept putting off revisiting it.
That ends now, as I kick off the first leg of another long-running stream project, which I've really had the idea for since back when I was still actively doing Better Quake Than Never. And it's very much in the same spirit, too - which is why I've been putting it off, because it could keep me occupied for even longer. But this has been long overdue. Or rather, Long OverDOOMed.
I certainly had a vague recollection around E4M1 and E4M2 both being rather rude, but didn't remember much of the rest of the episode. Most of the other maps are surprisingly reasonable for the most part (except E4M6 which is downright brutal). The level design definitely varies far more widely than E1-E3 and sometimes feels less polished - which stands to reason, as it features a wider variety of authors, some of whom were creating their first Doom maps in the process.
The levels also sometimes feel more reminiscent of Doom II - which is next on my list, as I haven't played Hell on Earth since 2017 and ought to refresh my memory before jumping into other doom2-based content that I haven't played before.
