Tony Rock Opens Up About Being Left Out of His Brother Chris Rock’s Film, Top Five
In a candid revelation, Tony Rock shared a painful experience from his relationship with his older brother, comedian Chris Rock, involving the production of the 2014 film Top Five. Tony recounted how he was eagerly waiting for the opportunity to be involved in the project, only to be left in the dark as filming commenced without him.
"I know everybody that's a stand-in. I know everybody that's background," Tony explained, highlighting his anticipation and readiness to join the cast. While on tour, Tony informed his management and agency to be prepared to pause everything once he got the call to join the film. "Yo, once he calls, we're gonna pause the tour and go shoot the movie. Bet, we ready," he recalled telling them.
However, the call never came. Instead, Tony began receiving messages from others already on set. "I start getting phone calls like, 'Hey, I'm on set. Where you at?' What you mean on set? 'We started shooting today. Today was the first day.' Oh, I didn't get a phone call," Tony shared, his frustration and disappointment palpable.
As weeks went by, Tony continued hearing about the film’s progress through indirect channels. One particularly heartbreaking moment came when someone called him during a club scene: "Some chick calls me like, 'Hey, babe, where you at? I'm doing background on this club scene. Are you here?' What are you talking about? 'Yeah, we shooting.'"
By the time Tony finally heard about the wrap party two months into production, it was clear he had been excluded. "Yo, bro, that shit crushed me. That shit crushed me," Tony admitted, reflecting on the emotional toll of being left out of a project he had been excited to participate in.
Tony's story highlights the complexities of sibling relationships, even between two successful figures in the entertainment industry, and serves as a reminder of the personal struggles that can exist behind the scenes.
