At the time of making this video, there weren't any full playthroughs of this game. I couldn't beat the game without using tools made for TAS and there were no runs to compare this to, so I labeled the video as a TAS. Looking now through, not only are there regular playthroughs that are better than this one, there are even speedruns that blow this out of the water! Because of that, it feels silly to keep calling this a TAS with the expectations someone might now have going in. I decided to rename the video to de-emphasize the speedrun part, now just mentioning that tools were used in the creation of this playthrough.

-- Original Description --

Here is a simple TAS for Marble Madness on the Gameboy Color that aims to beat the game without any large mistakes.

While there is a lot I could have done to save time here and there (maybe getting on the drawbridge before it goes up is possible), I mainly wanted to do this TAS to see if this game could even be beaten. Before making this, I noticed that there were no complete playthroughs of this game. After finding a cheat that gave infinite time so I could beat the game, I realized that it was probably because the end of the ultimate race takes way too long to beat (or maybe just because the controls are awful). It seemed like even a perfect run wouldn't be enough to get past that last part. As this TAS shows, you barely have any time to reach the finish even with a perfect run.

Only having 10 seconds of time to make mistakes still seems insane to me as I write this. That's basically 1 death and missing a cycle on the drawbridge or the hammers. Not to mention the 10 seconds includes killing all the small enemies quickly, which means a perfect run without killing any of them might be impossible. I can only assume the timer bonuses weren't increased because the game didn't lag as much while being developed, which meant everything would move a bit faster while the clock counted down at its current pace. Or maybe they just figured this was an arcade game and people would excuse it for being impossible to beat.

Anyways, hope you enjoy seeing this game beaten without any cheats!
