Board game design is HARD. I've helped design and playtest several, and while I'm working on one that's all my own, it is NOT easy. Some time ago, I did a video on 5 core principles of gaming, but it was recently brought to my attention that I went over game MECHANICS, instead. So I thought, let's get this fixed!

Good game design means you have to balance a lot of aspect simultaneously while making a fun, strategic experience for players. What're the most important aspects, though? What particularly makes you think that the designer(s) had their heads on straight and did a good job? More importantly, what makes you think that they really weren't thinking much at all?
