We've got a huge number of big new games still to come before 2021 comes to an end. I want to run through some of the big games and highlights and maybe some reasons to be excited for these games. Hopefully none of these games will be delayed. Let me know what you're looking forward to in the comments and let's start.
Starting off with Deathloop, two rival assassins are stuck in a time loop. The only way to break the loop is to assassinate eight key targets before the time cycle resets. This is from Arkane Studios, these devs have a track record of some pretty great single player first person games including the Dishonored series. And it's for that reason that I'm hopeful for Deathloop. They're also delving a tiny bit into multiplayer here with the addition of being able to take control of one of the assassins and jump into other player's campaigns and try to kill them. Sounds fun.
Diablo II Resurrected takes the over 20 years old ARPG and it's expansion pack to modern systems with a heavy remaster of the visuals. It's one of those remasters that builds on top of the original game and you'll be able to swap between the original visuals and new with the press of a button. I'm looking forward to losing a week or two of my life with this at launch.
Lost Judgement is the follow up to judgement which was a spin-off from the Yakuza series. This is an action adventure game that follows private detective Takayuki Yagami going undercover at a high school for a case. And with these kind of games my favourite part is the really fun and crazy minigames, this time we've got, dance clubs, robotics club, boxing, biker gang death races, skateboarding, casinos, and more.
New World is an all new IP and MMORPG from Amazon Game Studios. New World is set in an alternative history around the 17th century. The game has you arrive on an unexplored island called Aeternum and it's filled with supernatural secrets. There's dungeons, large scale PVP and territory to fight over, and it's own player housing system.
Super Monkey Ball returns for Banana Mania, this is a different kind of remaster that will have over 300 stages from Super Monkey Ball 1, 2, and deluxe in one game. There will be returning guest characters from Sonic the Hedgehog, Jet Set Radio, and new ones from the Yakuza series, and Morgana from Persona series which will be day 1 dlc.
Far Cry 6 offers more of the same first person shooting in Ubisoft's open world formula, this time set in the Cuba like island of Yara. One of the biggest selling points of the last few Far Cry games were the villains, and it looks to be the same here with the big bad being played by Giancarlo Esposito. He's played brilliant villains in lots of TV shows including Breaking Bad, so high expectations here.
Metroid Dread has the series return to it's 2D roots and is a direct sequel to Metroid Fusions which is now nearly 20 years old. We get some glimpses in the previews for some new abilities including an air-dash type ability and just in general gameplay looks really fluid and smooth. Fingers crossed this is a true successor for the series and brings Metroid back for good, this is something I'm genuinely looking forward to.
Back 4 Blood is the successor to Left 4 Dead from the same developers. You can group up with up to 3 friends and you'll shoot and slash your way through hordes of zombies. One thing that really surprised me from the beta was the gory and grotesque attention to detail within the environments, just mountains of mutinous body parts everywhere and trails of intestine like flesh stretched about. Battlefield 2042 boasts supporting 128 player matches on PC and returning dynamic effects and events.
There isn't actually any campaign this time, all of Dice's efforts have been focused on the online play.
Battlefield Portal will allow you to create your own battle modes and share them with others. There's a lot more focus on just have fun with crazy matches as opposed to the usual realism.
Next, House of Ashes is the third chapter in the Dark Pictures Anthology. House of Ashes covers special forces in Iraq that have accidentally uncovered a spooky buried temple. This is a series of individual horror stories that you can play co-op with meaningful choices and consequences to your actions....
