I can't believe this game came out before Silksong.
Investigation of the Deceiving Fox, or IotDF for short, is a hybrid of a fangame and a script by my friend InceRabbit. Why do I say hybrid? Well, it's essentially like a 3-stage game, but unlike the usual 3-stage game, its length is more reminiscent of MoF or WWW, which surprises me sometimes. But it's also mainly treated as a script, despite the amount of content. (I sent this to MegamanOmega for him to put on his polls, for example, and he decided to put it on the script poll, rather than the fangame poll, so y'know.)

This took like 1.5 years to develop, with breaks here and there. I also tested this game's performance, so none of you has any excuse for the game running like shit other than instances where there's too much on screen. (See: killing too many enemies at once with Sanae, or grazemilking the opener section from stage 1 on Lunatic. Sometimes some minor stutters for a few frames like on one of Sakuya's spells.) If this game does run like shit for you somehow... congrats on having something even worse than IrisPC? I guess?

Anyway, as per InceRabbit standards, this game is HARD. You'll definitely need to put in some effort to clear this.
There is at least a system called... the shield, by pressing C, once at least one of the squares on the bottom right is filled up. Simply put, it has different effects for each character, and at the end of a successful shield, you get a score bonus, which helps, since lives are based off score. There's three tiers of shields, gained by collecting items and grazing, which also affect duration and score gained from it.

There's 4 playable characters, Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya and Sanae. Reimu plays just like how she did in Hecatia and the Fairy. Marisa is a weird hybrid between a wide and a forward-focus shot. Sakuya is an odd, but cool take on a charge shot, that's moreso meant to abuse the Doppler Effect. Sanae is a wide shot that hits either both sides unfocused, or front and back focused.
Sakuya is the only shot I'm good at.
