Demo for the new Ido game came out. It's quite nice. The music, visuals and patterns are all really nice. Pattern balance seems good too, though the stage 2 safespot is a bit silly. Also I'm not sure how I feel about a Twitter Touhou.
It's not terribly hard, but it's only the first three stages after all.
Enemies drop gems instead of point items this time. If you bomb the gems they turn into colored gems that charges your Z-Spell. The Z-Spell is a super bomb that does a lot of damage and converts all bullets on screen into colored gems.
There is also a weird danger level mechanic where the game shows a warning in sections where you previously died. It's neat for survival runs I guess, but scoring involves suiciding so it's kinda contrary to its own system.
The actual mechanical balance seems a bit wack though.
The game has like a million shottypes. There are three main shottypes, 7 different subshots and 2 hidden subshots.
With so many shottyes, one always tends to be overpowered in some way, because balancing so many shottyes all at once is hard. Currently it looks like orange is incredibly overpowered on Lunatic. It ends patterns ridiculously fast if you can graze a bunch.
Scoring seems to be mostly bombspamming. You bomb so you can super bomb with the Z Spell so you get lives, which you then suicide so you can bomb some more. The green subshot even works almost exactly like AyaFall in Touhou 16.
I guess it's imitating how Touhou 16 had a huge amount of shottypes, and Ido games tend to imitate mechanics from the latest Touhou game a lot, for better or worse.
How the game is currently, you can probably break it very easily.
For this run I'm using the black subshot. Black does basically nothing except handicap you, which means you'll only ever use it if you want to do a challenge run.
Black gives you no perks in terms of shotpower or movement and bombs are incredibly weak.
