Touhou 15 東方紺珠伝 ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom - Perfect Lunatic Junko (No-Miss, No-Bomb)
"No I'm not doing stage 6 because it's absolute garbage."
Who would have thought that a single throwaway line like that would have such a huge and drastic effect. An effect that would last for years to come. The comment itself was a bit of a half-joke exaggeration, but I can see how it wouldn't fly over very well for some people.
So yeah Junko, she's by far the hardest boss in Touhou by a pretty big margin, it's pretty crazy. I had to do some serious grinding for this one. I got Master on every single spellcard, which is not something that happened in anything else I did in Touhou.
First non: the rings are really dense but fortunately it's static so it's not too annoying. You can line up Reimu's needles with the boss to see how far away you are from the gap.
Pure Light of the Palm: the blue lasers can't hit you so long as you align yourself with the bullets in front. There is always a big gap for the red lasers. This one is really easy.
Second non: stay at a certain height from Junko and move along with the lanes. Very easy too.
Lilies of Murderous Intent: Misdirect the first four aimed orbs to the sides and then stick to a wall depending on where Junko is on the screen. If she's in the middle the safest way to dodge is to also stick to the middle. The RNG on this spell is very unstable, but it's doable most of the time.
Third non: the first rows of a wave are random but the later rows are static. The pattern on the later rows is basically the same as in spellcard 4. Difficulty drastically increases if the boss moves low on the screen. It's a hard pattern but it's at least learnable.
Modern Divine Spirit World: this pattern is -awful- and it's one of the things that made me really hate trying to perfect this boss. There are several reasons why this pattern is so bad:
- The RNG on this spell is extremely unstable, it just randomly walls you at times. It's a coinflip.
- You have no idea which direction the bullets are going to move in until they've already started moving. Which means you can just get screwed if the spot you chose to move in was not good. It would be a lot better if it used a bullet type where you can actually see in which direction stuff is going to move in.
- Bullets are constantly overlapping with each other and are virtually invisible if one is hiding behind another one.
Fourth non: This pattern can be kinda bullshit depending on how the boss moves. It's not too bad if she stays in the same place, but if she constantly keeps moving all the way from the left to the right and vice versa, then it can give you some really awful angles on the bullets.
Trembling Shivering Star: this is just rhythmically tapping right and left. It's a rhythm game in a shmup. It's really easy under normal circumstances, but it's surprisingly hard under pressure.
Pristine Lunacy: this pattern feels very luck-based but there is a trick to it. You can predict where the next laser is going to go by looking at the angle of the lasers before they come out like this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/337676029365714945/390850148621615114/CxI9kJgVIAA-6Wc.png.
You also want to make sure you don't stray too far away from the center, because that makes it really hard to dodge the incoming laser. I got really lucky this run and all the lasers were aimed around me.
Cleansing of Earthen Impurity: this spell is probably the easiest attack in the fight. Start in the bottom-right and then just move in a square-like motion. Start moving up at around 5 seconds left and the pattern ends before the bullets reach you.
Pristine Danmaku Hell (PDH): this pattern is ridiculously hard. It's easily the hardest pattern in Touhou that is not an optional thing or a silly thing like ISP no items. And even then it can easily give those a run for their money. PDH is basically an exercise in extremely fast reading and decision making, and keeping that up without losing focus. It's exceptionally difficult, but it's never unfair. This is obviously by far the hardest part of the fight.
The first three attacks are quite boring, since you mostly just stand still and only tap left or right once in a while. This is also somewhat true for the 3rd and 4th non and Pristine Lunacy, there is a whole lot of just sitting there waiting for stuff to happen, which is not the most exciting thing. Spirit World is garbage. Lilies and PDH are good though.
I should mention that during that time, and I only found this out much, much later when the vsync patch came out, that I had quite a bit of input lag with LoLK. Which obviously made this boss a lot less fun to play, with how precise you have to be and all. I still don't really like this stage, but the better responsiveness makes it a lot more playable at least.
