Firstly, Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all have an amazing year ahead. Although this arrangement has been in my pipeline for a while, I am glad to have released the first arrangement of 2020. Expect this year to be filled with more content than in previous years with both original compositions and arrangements. Danganronpa, Zero Escape, Persona and Shovel Knight just to name a few examples of things that are on their way.
It was surprisingly this time last year when I first started creating this arrangement. While I nearly completed it, I was reluctant to finish it off as I knew I could go further and try to create something special. I really wanted to invoke that feeling of mellow tranquility you feel when entering Aster House for the first time, one of the climatic points in the game.
In terms of the instrumentation, I wanted to preserve a lot of what I could hear in the original, with the vocals and strings complimenting each other. Although, I also added different kinds of vocal parts, a una corda and layers of string parts. In the original, it is somewhat tricky to discern what each string parts are doing and how they interact, so I spent a lot of time fine tuning the violins, violas and cellos to create harmonious accompaniment. Check out the string part on its own here (starts at 0:22): https://www.dropbox.com/s/90likwht4i2s2p3/Aster%20House%20-%20Strings.wav?dl=0
The harp part was also somewhat tricky to develop given how obscured the part is in the original. Here was my take on it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z1mk6d0bfer934q/Aster%20House%20-%20Harp.wav?dl=0
The original sets this really interesting 'calm before the storm' feel. Would highly suggest checking out Trails in the Sky (Sora no Kiseki) if you have not already. Hopefully you'll quickly realise why I love the music, characters and story so much. The game is part of a wider series called 'The Legend of Heroes.' Definitely a series worth checking out. You are in for an emotional journey.
As always, thanks for watching!
