I'm probably very late to the Undertale arrangement party, but it wasn't that long ago that I played the game for the first time. It's one of those games I've been told to play for a very long time, but never really got round to doing so. When I finally, it threw all my expectations out the window (which I'm sure it did for many others). What a game! I won't say any more than that. I'd highly recommend playing it.

Like arrangements of other pieces (Morph Sorrow especially), I was tempted to turn this into some kind of symphony, triple the length of the original. In the end, I decided that I wanted to keep it short and sweet with the celesta playing the most important role in the piece. I wanted to share the melody between both the piano and the celesta. There's a feeling of delicacy and vulnerability provided by the instrument which I thought really reflects the experiences of the main character at the beginning of the game.

The rest of the piece is supplemented by a a supporting harp, a series of pizzicato and tremolo strings and a flourish of wind and vocal instruments. For future arrangements from Undertale, I'm very tempted not to go down the orchestral route. I feel like there's so much potential to incorporate more jazzy elements, similar to my Danganronpa arrangements. Having said that, I have a burning desire to cover Megalovania in some grandiose orchestral form at some point... that's going to be an exciting challenge.
