Hello and hope everyone is well and safe. I thought it would be a good idea to upload something a bit soft in tone and relaxing as we ease our way into the summer. Afternoon in Crossbell is one of the themes heard while exploring the state of Crossbell, the setting of Trails from Zero. It's definitely one of my favourite pieces in the game and I love Falcom Sound Team JDK's various different renditions of the piece. I really wanted to see what I could do with it!

Rhythmically, the arrangement goes for quite a Latin feel in terms of the interaction between the drums and the upright bass. Throughout the piece there are subtle variations in the bass part to ensure it feels alive and evolving. It took quite a while to create, but I think it was worth it. As well as this, the Rhodes, vocals, piano and guitars carry the core of the piece.

I also recorded myself playing the djembe as a nice addition to the chorus. Percussion was quite a huge focus of this arrangement. I ended up including: a drum kit, djembe, steel pans, shaker and marimba.

I was also keen on adding original sections to the piece as a way of introducing instrument solos. This is something I had in mind right from the outset, similar to Falcom's Kiseki jdk Acoustics album. As always, there is a reference to another piece within the second solo section (3:27).

Definitely more Kiseki arrangements around the corner!

Thanks for watching
