Train Simulator 2019: Sodding About in a Class 37
*Firstly, I would like to say that I can't apologize enough for how long it's been since I last uploaded a video. This is due to a) the drama of getting a new phone and b) having to re-install Train Simulator because it kept crashing whenever I tried launching it. But that's all out of the way now, and I should be back to making videos more frequently from here on.*
And with that out of the way, I'll get on to what's actually in the video.
Today we are on a route called 'Midland Preservation Line', which is available from Steam Workshop. This is a fictional route set in England, and - in this video - we go from Abersyth to Toddington Halt, with a stop at Medford along the way. As evidenced by the title, our traction today is a Class 37, but not a normal 37.
The 37 we're using today is 37901 'Mirrlees Pioneer' (formerly 37150). The reason 37901 isn't normal is because - in 1986 - she was one of four members of the class fitted with Mirrlees MB275T engines, and served as test-beds for the proposed Class 38 locomotive. For what ever reason, the Class 38 project was axed before the first member of the class was built.
37901 was mainly used on steel trains out of the Port Talbot area, but it was around the mid-1990s that use of her (and the other three Mirrlees-powered 37's) declined. No thanks to the arrival of the Class 66. With the advent of this new motive power, 37901 was retired in 1998.
Fortunately this wasn't the end for 37901, as she was eventually sold into preservation in 2003. Today she can be found on the Mid-Hants Railway, and - as far as I know - still retains the Mirrlees engine she received in 1986.
In Train Simulator, the Mirrlees-fitted 37 is available from Armstrong Powerhouse - as part of their Class 37/9 Sound Pack (Pro). As for the coaches, they are the Queen of Scots Mk1's, which are available from DP Simulation.
