Ever run into that problem where you're out of gas in the middle of nowhere? Well, you've most probably got nothing on Rick. Tricky Rick is a game about aforementioned Rick who's stuck on a hostile planet and has to collect all the fuel possible in order to refuel his spaceship (which for some reason seems to run on diesel...) and fly away into the wide blue yonder. It's tougher than it seems, as rather than being a typical action platformer, this game is more of a puzzle-game that requires that you think your way through levels rather than going in guns a-blazing. Not that you have any guns though.

To get through the levels, you've got to use your head, and in more ways than one. But we'll get to that later. At the most basic, a level consists of Rick, a gas tank, and some obstacles. The game starts out simply enough, you just walk around, pick up the gas can, and move on. Later levels will introduce other elements, such as batteries that power Rick's flying abilities, lifts that can move him up and down to different platforms (he's a hunk of metal, so give him a break, it's understandable that his jumping abilities are rather pathetic), laser beams that will fry him on the spot, and big tough robot goons. And that's where you really need to use your head, literally. To get past enemies, you can either blow them up, if the level has bombs, or you can detach your head, chuck it at them, and stun them long enough to get past and steal whatever you need from them. Sure, it sounds crazy, but you're already playing a game about a robot trying to get gas tanks for his spaceship, so how much stranger can it get?

The puzzle elements of the game are great, and most don't have a straightforward solution. They'll require multiple elements to solve, and at times you'll need pretty good timing as well in order to evade the guard-bots, time your jumps, and flee from tripped alarm systems. You don't have any lives in the game, so it's fairly safe to experiment with each level in order to find the bet solution. More than that though, you get better points the faster you finish a level, so it's also a good idea to figure out how to do the level by experimenting a few times, and then rushing it in order to get all three gold stars.

What's also great is that the levels themselves are fairly well done visually. The game is aesthetically pleasing, with a great art style that really complements the theme of the game. It's simple and cartoony, but it does the job of giving you a sense of a frail little Rick trying his bumbling best to get out of the situation he's in. The animations can at times be a bit wanting, but as a puzzle game you don't really need that much animation in order to get at the puzzly bits.

Overall, Tricky Rick is a solid puzzle game and with all the levels it's got, you're sure to be having some great fun with it for some time.
