Green Survive Only When Reds Die - Game Walkthrough (1-15 lvl)
Greens Survive When Reds Die isn't a Quake-like where you have one team color against another. Instead, it's a novel puzzle game that will challenge your logic and puzzle your... well, logic too I suppose. But enough witty banter, on to the game.
The game provides you with a short little backstory. It's not really needed for the game, but it provides some context. In the game, a bunch of little creatures, the reds and the greens, are trapped on a world. They can escape, but for the green to escape, the reds must die (hence the title). No, it doesn't involve any shooting or guns a-blazing, it's a puzzle game, remember? The game starts off easy enough, you're given control of a single green man. To exit, you have to get to the door. Along the way, there are some coins you can collect to boost your score. The first level is simple, go from left to right and pick up the coins along the way. Easy. But it gets harder.
You're soon introduced to your first red dude. To get the door to open, you've got to kill the little red dude. Now here's the novel bit. You control both your little green man and the red guy at the same time. That is, when you move left, the red guy moves left. When you jump, the red guy jumps. And so on and so forth. You thus have to take into consideration both characters as they move along, and use the terrain and obstacles on the level to guide Mr. Red to certain spiky doom without having the green guy fall prey to the same.
A few more levels in, and you're introduced to portals. Both reds and greens can go through these, but they tend to be one-way trips, so you have to make sure you analyze the level first before jumping in. More often than not, they're the key to killing the red guy while allowing the green one to go free.
A few levels are completely partitioned, with no way for the greens and reds to interact. This is a plus, in some ways, as having a red touch a green is instant death. The ability to control both comes into play here, as you can control the red guy as well in order to collect the bonus coins. Sure, you could always just ignore the coins, but where's the fun in that?
At first, you're only given two to worry about, which isn't much harder than having to deal with just one. Soon though, the number of little dudes on the screen multiplies, and you not only have to worry about having them bump into each other (a definite bad thing) but you've also got to be careful that you don't accidentally kill off your greens as well. The good thing though, is that you can repeat the levels as many times as you need in order to accomplish your goal.
All in all, Greens Survive When Reds Die is a very novel, and very innovative puzzle game. If you're a fan of brain-teasers and logic-stumpers, then this is the game for you!
