Part 4. And back to the tried and true 2D Trine. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't pick up where 3 left off. WHY????? This game is fantastic like all the others. The graphics are freaking beautiful and the level design is just awesome. The best part, and I so love this, is that they actually put puzzles into the the game. Before it was more platforming puzzling, this felt more like actual puzzles and it was great. So maby optional areas that required some clever brain thoughts to figure out how to get the sweet sweet treasurey rewards. It's so damn satisfying. It's still a collect-a-thon and like th4e 3rd game introduced they give you a check list at every checkpoint so you know where your missing loot is. And you can fast load to those points directly. Such a great quality of life addition. Rather than having to scour these massive levels for one bobble, now you just have to scour a small area. It's a nice relief. There are new mechanics for each character and they are a blast to use. The thief can make objects into balloons, the wizard can make balls now and the knight is the knight. And on to combat. It's bad, reall really bad. It starts out fine enough, but as you progress they just throw tons of trash at you. The arenas are small and insanely hard to navigate when there are 7 or 8 enemies bearing down on you and spamming projectiles. Enemies can shoot through platforms, you cannot. I played on hard so I'm sure they are extra tanky, that's not really an issue. You can only take a hit or two before you are dead so you have to be very mindful. The worst part is that the knights shield breaks after getting hit twice, so blocking becomes largely pointless. You do get some evasive moves, but they take too long to recharge. So standard encounters are just a huge pain. I found myself dreading encounters while loving all the puzzle platforming. The bosses on the other hand were all amazing and utilized each characters talents and mechanics, they were some of the best parts of the game. The DLC, Melody of Mystery, was once again huge and felt like another full game. It was just as wonderful as the base game and took advantage of the fact you had unlocked all of your talents and the puzzles were even more insidious. So lovely and brain hurtingly splendid. This probably would have been my favorite if the combat wasn't so damn atrocious. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
