[TRIP REPORT] Air Europa Boeing 787-8 From Madrid MAD To Barcelona BCN In Economy
Flying domestically in Europe is pretty rare, but some routes are just so popular that even widebody jets are needed to cope with the demand. Spain still has a very strong domestic airline market and Air Europa uses their Boeing 787 Dreamliners on their twice daily Madrid to Barcelona route. The hispeed train is actually quicker, but apparantly some still prefer to fly between the two busiest cities of Spain.
Flying Blue Platinum and Skyteam Elite Plus members won't normally get lounge acces when flying on a domestic economy class ticket. However, earlier that day I took an early morning KLM flight from Amsterdam to Madrid and was planning to travel to Barcelona on a seperate ticket later in the afternoon. Wondering if this would qualify as connecting from an international flight to a domestic one, because if that was acknowledge I could secure myself acces to the business class lounge.
After presenting both my previous and current boarding pass at the Puerta de Alcalá lounge in Madrid, I was surprisingly waived through and could enjoy the lounge to my hearts content. This business class lounge is operated by Aena and has a lot to offer from delicious food to stunning apron views. It is definitely one of my favorites in Europe for sure!
