[TRIP REPORT] CFL's Unknown InterCity From Düsseldorf To Luxembourg In First Class
26The national railway company from Luxembourg CFL (Société nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois) operates a daily return service from Luxembourg to Düsseldorf in cooperation with DB (Deutsche Bahn) extending the RE11 service from Luxembourg to Koblenz beyond it in order to connect the capital of the German state North Rhine-Westphalia as well.
The equipement used for this service is a regular Stadler KISS train meant for regional services. For this reason the InterCity train is a bit odd and doesn't offer a lot of things a normal one from DB would. It is purely to give passangers a direct connection from Luxembourg to Düsseldorf without the transfer in Koblenz.
The train has no dining car, no seat reservations and seats are of lower comfort, comparable to that of regional trains. There is an exception though, if you happen to travel in First Class, you will find proper long distance seating and you can reserve them too!
This one time a day service doesn't add much in my opinion, but it's nice to have. The railway line along the river Moselle, however is really a must do when visiting the region! It's very scenic and you can visit interesting places like Koblenz, Cochem and Trier along the way to Luxembourg.
